Environmental Biotechnology (biological process) - Essay ExampleResearchers, Mekonnen M Demeke and group, at the Laboratory of Molecular Cell Biology, Leuven-Heverlee, and the incision of Molecular Microbiology, VIB in Belgium modified the genetic makeup of barm strains through yeast mating. The main strain, Ethanol Red, already has successful industrial application and the fact that these three super-strains are derived from it goes on to show that in that location will be no limitations to their industrial applications for synthesis of biofuel. After screening 580 Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) strains, researchers identified a strain with the highest tolerance to inhibitors. It was mated with an industrial yeast strain GS1.11-26 (having the genetic background of Ethanol Red) that could ferment D-xylose. From the resultant hybrids, two strains (GSF335 and GSF767) were selected that had had high inhibitor tolerance as well as D-xylose conversion ability. Separately, a terzetto super-strain was produced through meiotic recombination. The result three super strains exhibiting significantly improved tolerance to inhibitors in spruce hydrolysate, higher glucose consumption rates, higher aerobic festering rates and higher maximal ethanol accumulation capacity in very-high gravity fermentation, compared to GS1.11-26. Simply put, these strains had better D-xylose conversion capacity and inhibitor tolerance compared to the primary strain. plan of traits for D-xylose conversion has been a very challenging proposition in industrial biotechnological research. Until now, methods such as evolutionary engineering and mutagenesis were attempted. However, researchers had little control over these processes. Wi-Fi - Research Paper ExampleIt is the recognize given to a type of vane connection that does no need any cords or physical connections to connect. Technically, it represents a type of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) that adheres to the 802.11network standard of the IEEE. The term Wi-Fi is often erroneously thought of as an acronym for Wireless Fidelity. What is its History? The AT&T Companys receiving set uses air spectrum radiocommunication technology and multi carrier OFDM radio technology. This spread spectrum technology used in Wi-Fi was first introduced in the yr 1985 by the US Federal communications Commission. Vic Hayes chaired IEEE for ten consecutive years. He was tangled in designing standards 802.11a and 802.11b upon which Wi-Fi works. He is thus named as the father of Wi-Fi. The actual predecessor to Wi Fi was invented in 1990 by the NCR Corporation/AT&T in the Netherlands. WaveLan was the name given to the first wireless products that were bought into the ma rket. They incorporated the speeds of 1Mbit/s to 2Mbit/s. Finally, the CSIRO, an Australian research body filed the original patents behind the Wi-Fi technology in the year 1986. How it works? Wi-Fi uses radio waves to transmit the reading across a Wireless Local Area Network. It transmits information to and from the internet. Any data transfer from a website is done when the website sends information to the modem. This information is then passed on to a wireless router. This device routes data (converts information to radio waves and beams it) to your computer. This information is then interpreted by the computer with the help of wireless networking specific hardware/software. Exactly the same process occurs but only in the opposite direction when the computer wants to send information over the internet. real often, a wireless connection operates faster than a wired broadband internet connection. Who invented? An Australian research body CSIRO was the first formal inventors of Wi -Fi in the year 1996. How safe is it? Majority of the scientists who have assessed the safety of Wi-Fi networks advocate the fact that there is no particular evidence to the Wi Fi connections being hazardous to health. The technology and is not very old. Thus any health hazards that may be slow would only be evident after a certain number of years. cashbox then it cannot certainly be judged whether a Wi Fi is safe or not. The radio waves that are used by a wireless device or network are relatively low in oftenness. The 2.4GHz of radio waves used in the case of Wi-Fi are the non-ionizing type of radiation. This radiation, also used in microwaves and mobile cry communications etc., is not known to have destructive effects on human cells. There is however, one school of thought among scientists that advocates that such a frequency of radiation is harmful to chromosomes. Also, this school of thought thinks that the radiation does not merely heat up the human atoms but does much mo re than that. There however is no scientific evidence to prove the above facts. Another school of thought emphasizes that exposure to microwaves and cell phones using low level radiation may scientifically be harmless as yet but the exposures to these waves in the above mentioned devices are relatively for a very short period of age as compared to the exposure to a Wi-Fi router that may be located in your office or home. The spectrum that these low radiation emitting devices cover is very large and is constant. The Wi-Fi routers in the vicinity of a human being are turned on twenty four hours a day and seven days a workweek throughout the year. Though no scientific evidence may yet be present but Wi-Fi devices are suspected to me more of a attempt than any other devices using the same low level frequency of radio waves. The WHO (World

Child Labor International Trade Union Confederation defined claw labor as any acetify that hinders in the development of the true potential, acquisition of dignity and that may obscure the physical and mental growth of a child (1). There exist many an(prenominal) types of child labors across the world agricultural work, industrial work, lifting goods etc. International Labor Office Geneva provided the figures that around 211 million children were known to be sedulous in full time child labor jobs in the year 2000. According to International Trade Union Confederation, every individual under the be on of 18 is considered to be a child, however the age bracket of the children included in this statistic were from 5 to 14 years of age (1). This figure does not in time include the children who might b e working on shifts basis for lesser durations in a day. This appalling figure serves to make one realize the severity of this situation. 3. Causes and Solutions of Child Labor According to this publication by International Labor Office Geneva, the presence of child labor is lesser in developed countries as compared to the developing ones since developed countries have been recorded to have 2% of child labor and developing nations possess as much as 30% of child labor. One factor that can explain the extensive differentiation between these figures is poverty. Udry agrees with this factor and stated that many economists believe that poverty is a major medical prognosis that compels the parents to send their children to participate in earning for the household (2). However, the eradication of poverty cannot simple be the solution of child labor it must be accompanied with the launching of awareness of the hazardous causes of undermining the value of education and development of ment al growth of the child. It is often witnessed that uneducated parents do not consider child labor as any wrong conduct and impose the decision of work upon their children. It seems as a natural process in their lives since their ancestors have been following the same advocate since ages. This causes the poor children to grow up to be uneducated and poor swelleds who cannot break the vicious cycle and earn a better place and respect in the society. Vandenberg stated that the cost of education tends to become a hindrance in its acquisition and ends up making the children resort to child labor as the election other than education (15). He also provided a useful figure that pointed out that Kenya took a positive step against the eradication of child labor in 2003 and abolished the fees from primary schools (18). This step proved to get 1.5 million children off from the streets and their work and starting acquiring education. Free education is a good approach to abase child labor but the shortage of earnings in a family may prove to incline the parents to send the children in the world to earn again. A good strategy to avoid such relapses of poverty can be to regulate effective implementation of the minimal wages to ensure that every adult is able to afford a comfortable living without depending on his children to participate in making ends meet. Countries with low income or in developing countries to a greater extent small businesses are being setup because of the push factor as there is a high number of unemployment and pile are forced to start-up their own business. In high income countries or positive countries small businesses are increasing collectable to the pull factor as more and ore the great unwashed are participationed in setting up their own business go become independent. pic Sometimes businesses fail or people get frustrated and it is at this time that they need to remind themselves what motivated them to start their own business and this motivation and dedication has led to their growth and success. According to Schumpeter entrepreneur is an innovator as he/she brings about a change and introduces new technological processes or products and brings in new ideas which are necessary for a business to grow.He also said that only certain people have the ability to become an entrepreneur and to perform extraordinary tasks. Small businesses are the ones that tend to grow faster than large businesses. They indicate higher number of employment growth. Small businesses accounts for more than 50% of the employers in European Economies. France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Germany and UK are the leading economies of the European Union where small Businesses have been thriving for the past two decades and where small businesses accounts for more than 50% of the total employment. In Greece small businesses accounts for as much as 86% of the number of people employed. In 1998, a charter for small business was adopted by European Council which has helped in the huge number of growth in small businesses. Banks are the briny source of lending for small businesses and they depend a lot on them for support and cooperation. HSBC was one of the banks which started recognizing small businesses as one of main force in the economy. In UK small business employ about 12 million people so as to recognize and reward these small businesses HSBC launched an award in 1997 Known as HSBC small business of the year Award.HSBC started a new loan program called SMALL BUSINESS LOAN which was quick and easy t o arrange loan induction for long term use and had many key benefits. Customers can choose to make their first repayment either one month after fetching the borrowing or defer the first repayment until three months after drawing down the loan, Customers had the flexibility to choose the repayment period which was between 12 months and 10 years, the interest rate and repayments allow be fixed for the life of the loan.HSBC recently launched a $5 billion working capital fund to come across small businesses had access to credit during the current economic crisis. In 2008 alone more than 32,000 small businesses have switched to HSBC because of higher lending fees and banks reluctant to extend loans. Growth of small businesses depends on the type of business they are doing, location of the business (a retail shop should be better placed in the residential area) and well-nigh importantly the proprietorship of the business. regimes in some countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia) have gone as fa r as allocating lands to small business owners small businesses are advance to setup as the government provides 5 years of tax free operation to businesses with potential growth and they provide financial assistance with low interest rates as well as assign a team to monitor the growth of the businesses. Rental and electricity charges are lower for small firms and the government is also getting small construction businesses to get involved in the construction industry by giving them subcontracts for some of the projects. In UK the government started a programme called The Business Support Simplification Programme (BSSP) which aims to make it easier for small companies and entrepreneurs to understand and access government funded grants, subsidies and advice with which to start and grow their businesses. Small Businesses were given incentives and taxes were let down so as to help them setup. Setting up of this programme had a huge influence on the growth of small Businesses. In March 2008 the Government launched the Enterprise Strategy. The Strategys vision is to make the UK the most enterprising economy in the world and the outmatch place to start and grow a business. It was designed to unbolt the entrepreneurship talents in UK, provide a boost to enterprise friendship and skills, support new and existing small business getting access to funding for start-up and growth and decrease the burden of regulations in place particularly for small firms. The government wants a culture of enterprise and business innovation which will have a great effect on the economic growth. This new strategy has strengthened the Government upport to small businesses and has allowed SMEs to set up more easily and with a proper regulatory body monitoring the growth. Small Businesses are flexible, more focused, determined and creative and these are some of the reasons why there is an increase in the number of small businesses . Flexibility is what drives some people to start their own business. For example (if a person is expert in any subject, field or have some extraordinary skills he/she can work as a consultant where the work timings are set by him/her self and the amount of time spent also).Growth in business demands creative thinking. It is what will separate you from the competition. A business had to be different as this is the best way to create awareness. Being different and greater creativity are also the factors which has influenced the growth of small businesses. Being innovative and inventing new things is also a factor which drives people to start their own business. People would have some different business idea of doing something in a different way and this leads to creativity and innovation.Small businesses are easy to setup as the cost of starting up is not very high. Government supports the setup of small business because they want to break the monopoly in the market and there will be a decrease in the number of unemployed as more and more p eople will become self-employed. Lower opportunity cost also attracts people towards entrepreneurship. Economies with high unemployment can be pushed towards entrepreneurship. Examples are Brazil and India. Some people would like to pursue a particular liking or hobby so they enter in to entrepreneurship, it can be leisure driven and it gives flexibility to the owner as there can be work-life balance. More and more specialized people are starting their own business in the field they specialize as they can deliver better services and products. Specializing in a particular product or service gives you the upper hand in the market you are in as you will have the skills and knowledge of the product you are manufacturing or selling.Specialization has also led professional people or extra ordinary skilled people in to starting up their own business. Gaining inspiration from noteworthy entrepreneurs have also led to the factor that people are ready to start up their own business thinking one day they might be like Donald Trump, Hugh Heffner or Richard Branson. Becoming famous and wanting to be recognized in the world is also a strong feeling which had pulled people towards entrepreneurship as there is a strong desire attached with it to pursue their perceived goals.Gaining fame and recognition is one of the strong factors which have led people to start their own business. In general, I conclude by saying that small businesses have been growing because they thrive for independence and the owners usually have a feel good factor while running their own business. It gives them a chance to show the level of creativity in them as they wont be able to do so while working in other companies. Small Businesses are the key to innovation and without their support the economy would fail drastically.Growth of Small Businesses can be affected due to the current economic crisis but government and banks should support and back small businesses to survive this crisis. Banks like HSBC are already committed to supporting small businesses in this economic crisis and as more and more people getting unemployed governments should give incentives and grants and promote the setup of new businesses and provide assistance and advice on main issues surrounding the small businesses.Small Businesses are not always successful but having proper business idea and creative mind plus knowledge of market will help the entrepreneurs in getting their business on the right track. As SCHUMPTER proposed that it was the exceptional creative drive of independent entrepreneurs that led to the design of radical new products and the creation of new industries. This radical drive to invent, innovate and create something which is new to everyone has been one of the major factors in the growth of Small and moderate sized businesses (SMEs).

E-Contracts and E-Signatures Essay Example for Free

E-Contracts and E-Signatures EssayI. Forming Contracts OnlineDisputes arising from contracts entered into online concern the foothold and assent to those terms.A. Online OffersTerms should be conspicuous and clearly spelled out. On a Web site, this can be done with a link to a separate page that contains the details. The text lists subjects that might be covered, including remedies, dispute settlement, payment, taxes, refund and stop policies, disclaimers, and privacy policies. An online offer should also include a mechanism by which an offeree can affirmatively indicate assent (such as an I associate box to crack on). 1. Click-On AgreementsA click-on agreement occurs when a buyer, completing a transaction on a computer, is required to indicate his or her assent to be bound by the terms of an offer by clicking on a button that says, for example, I agree. The terms may appear on a Web site with which a buyer is obtaining goods or services, or they may appear on a computer scr een when software is loaded.2. Shrink-wrap AgreementsA shrink-wrap agreement is an agreement whose terms are expressed inside a box in which computer hardware or software is packaged. In most cases, the agreement is non mingled with a seller and a buyer, but between a manufacturer and the substance abuser of the product. The terms generally concern warranties, remedies, and other issues associated with the use of the product. Courts often employ shrink-wrap agreements, reasoning that the seller proposed an offer that the buyer accepted after an opportunity to read the terms. Also, it is more practical to enclose the full terms of a sale in a box. If a court finds that the buyer learned of the shrink-wrap terms after the parties entered into a contract, the court might conclude that those terms were proposals for additional terms, which were not part of the contract unless the buyer expressly agreed to them.3. Browse-Wrap TermsBrowse-wrap terms, which can also occur in an onlin e transaction, do not require a user to assent to the terms before going ahead with the deal. Offerors of these terms generally assert that they are binding without the users active consent. Critics argue that a user should at least be required to navigate past the terms before they should be considered binding.II. E-SignaturesThe text discusses how e-signatures are created and verified, and their legal tack.A. E-Signature TechnologiesThe text discusses cardinal common methods for creating e-signatures.B. State Laws Governing E-SignaturesMost states have laws governing body e-signatures, although the laws are not uniform. The Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA), issued in 1999 and adopted by most states, was an attempt by the National convocation of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) to create more uniformity.C. Federal Law on E-Signatures and E-DocumentsIn 2000, telling enacted the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (E-SIGN Act) to provi de that no contract, record, or signature may be denied legal effect wholly because it is in an electronic form. Some documents are excluded, most notably documents governed by Articles 3, 4, and 9 of the UCC.III. Partnering AgreementsThrough a partnering agreement, a seller and a buyer agree in advance on the terms to apply in all transactions subsequently conducted electronically. These terms may include access and identification codes. A partnering agreement, like any contract, can pr correctt later disputes. IV. The Uniform Electronic Transactions Act The UETA, which is a draft of legislation suggested to the states by the National Conference of Commissioners of Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) and the American Law Institute (ALI), removes barriers to e-commerce by giving the same legal effect to electronic records and signatures as to paper documents and signatures.A. The Scope and pertinency of the UETAThe UETA applies only to e-records and e-signatures relating to a transaction (an interaction between two or more people relating to business, commercial or governmental activities). The UETA does not apply to laws governing wills or testamentary trusts, the UCC (except Articles 2 and 2A), the UCITA, and other laws excluded by the states. B. The Federal E-SIGN Act and the UETAIf a state enacts the UETA without modification, the E-SIGN Act does not preempt it. The E-SIGN Act does preempt special versions of the UETA to the extent that they are in consistent with the E-SIGN Act. Under the E-SIGN Act, states may enact alternative procedures or requirements for the use or acceptance of e-records or e-signatures if (1) those procedures or requirements are consistent with the E-SIGN Act, (2) the states procedures do not give greater legal effect to any specific type of technology, and (3) if the state adopts the alternative after the economy of the E-SIGN Act, the state law must refer to the E-SIGN Act.C. Highlights of the UETAState versions may vary.1. The Parti es Must Agree to Conduct Transaction Electronically This agreement may be implied by the circumstances and the parties conduct (for example, giving out a business card with an e-mail address on it). Consent may also be withdrawn.2. Parties drive out Opt OutParties can waive or vary any or all of the UETA, but the UETA applies in the absence of an agreement to the contrary. 3. Attribution The effect of an e-record is determined from its context and circumstances. A persons separate is not necessary to give effect to an e-record, but if, for example, a person types her or his name at the bottom of an e-mail purchase order, that typing qualifies as a signature and is attributed to the person. Any relevant evidence can prove that an e-record or e-signature is, or is not, the act of the person. If issues arise relating to agency, authority, forgery, or contract formation, state laws other than the UETA apply.4. NotarizationA document can be notarized by a notarys e-signature.5. The te rmination of ErrorsIf the parties agree to a security procedure and one party does not detect an error because it did not follow the procedure, the conforming party can avoid the effect of the error UETA 10. If the parties do not agree on a security procedure, other state laws determine the effect of the mistake. To avoid the effect of an error, a party must (1) promptly notify the other of the error and of his or her intent not to be bound by it and (2) take reasonable stairs to return any benefit or consideration received. If restitution cannot be made, the transaction may be unavoidable.6. TimingAn e-record is sent when it is properly directed from the senders place of business to the intended receiving system in a form readable by the recipients computer at the recipients place of business that has the closest relation to the transaction (or either partys residence, if there is no place of business). Once an e-record leaves the senders control or comes under the recipients con trol, it is sent. An e-record is received when it enters the recipients processing system in a readable formeven if no person is aware of its receipt.
